Dedicated Caregivers

Careful Selection Process

We know providing heartfelt care involves more than just professional experience. Out of the many applications we receive, only a few are chosen to be part of our team.

Continuous Training

A True Calling

For our caregivers, this role is more than a job—it’s a calling. Many have personal experience in caring for their own family members, giving them a profound appreciation for the significance of empathetic care for the elderly.

We Match Seniors with Highly Trained Caregivers

Our caregivers are trained specifically to provide in-home care. They’ve successfully passed extensive background checks and are insured, bonded, and trained in CPR and First Aid.Assisting Hands® will help you select the best match from our pre-screened group of available assistants, and can generally have qualified help placed in your home within 48 hours or less from the initial call. Meet Some of Our Amazing Caregivers

Congratulations to our August Caregiver of the month, Burnita Robertson-Cureton. Burnita has been with us for a little over 2 years now and she is absolutely a great asset to our caregiving team! The care that she gives each and every one of her clients is phenomenal! She goes above and beyond to ensure each one of her clients are receiving the care they deserve. Way to go Burnita!!!
We had a chance to sit down with Burnita and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she had to say:
Why did you choose to be a Caregiver?
I chose to be a caregiver because I enjoy helping people; making them smile, spending time with them, taking walks, helping with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, feeding, preparing meals etc.. Helping them to strive for their independence. I learn from each individual experience.. Treating everyone with dignity and respect.
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
What makes me most excited about working with seniors is that they all have a story to tell about their past life experiences whether it be with family, friends, hobbies or positions held. Some have traveled the world, owned businesses, were doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc. Lasting memories that brings a smile upon their faces
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the home care field?
The advice I would give to caregivers starting out in the home care field would be don’t take this job if you're just looking for a paycheck. You have to have a passion for helping others who are in need of assistance and want to make a difference in their lives. This job is not for the weak. Some cases require more assistance than others. You may even develop a bond with the clients and families. Don’t bring your personal problems to work. Be patient but most of all treat everyone the way you would want to be treated.
What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond?
What I like about working for the company is that they recognize you, your hard work and dedication. They offer bonuses and incentives. They take the time to listen and show that they care not only about the clients but they care about the caregivers as well. The management team is great and supportive. Assisting Hands is A Great Place To Work!
Burnita, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values each and every day!

Congratulations to our July Caregiver of the month, Mirancia ("Mimi") Bellegarde-Dijon. Mimi is very caring, compassionate and knowledgeable when it comes to providing care to her clients. One of her clients mentioned "Since she has been working with my husband he has shown progression and has more confidence." Way to go Mimi!
We had a chance to sit down with Mimi and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she had to say:
Why did you choose to be a Caregiver?
Mimi: I became a caregiver to make a difference from what I saw back home in Haiti. I didn't know anything about "caregiving" coming into the States. Back home when people get sick with dementia or Alzheimer's they get mistreated, they get called crazy, all because they have no knowledge of this type of sickness. I became a caregiver to make a difference from what I saw back home, I wanted to receive the knowledge so I can make a difference in someone's life. Gaining this knowledge I was able to help people back home by educating them on how to handle situations as such, and what proper channels to go through to get help. So to me it was a big deal to become a caregiver. To make a difference.
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
Mimi: The fact that I can provide love, protection and compassion to them. Seniors become vulnerable and they are seeking that love, compassion, and protection. I just want to be able to give to them that, because that is exactly what I would want someone to give to me during that stage in life.
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the home care field?
Mimi: I would tell them it's not an easy task. You have to go into this field from the heart and not for the money. You have to have a warm heart and be kind hearted. Just think what you give is what you will get. Do not judge anyone, treat people with respect and do your job with love and care.
What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond?
Mimi: It's a nice place, since I started I saw nothing but respect from the office staff, they speak nicely to you on the phone and whenever you need them they are right there to answer any questions or concerns you may have. They truly stand behind their businesses. I have yet to find anything to complain about. Even the clients say good things about Assisting Hands to me.
Mimi, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values each and every day!

Congratulations to our May Caregiver of the month, Raquel Leake. Raquel came to us as a PCA and has worked her way up to become a CNA. She has made a major impact on her clients life since being his caretaker. She is very patient and has a calming manner which comes in handy for some clients who are a little difficult at times. We are glad to have you on the AHR team!
We had a chance to sit down with Raquel and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she had to say:
Why did you choose to be a Caregiver
Raquel: I have always been passionate about my family, I will do anything for them and I always think about other people before myself and I wanted to spread that, because everyone is someone’s family
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
Raquel: I love my Grannie more than anything in the world and I figured that seniors are other people's grandparents and I want them to have the same care that I would give my loved ones!
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the home care field
Raquel: Be patient, compassionate, ask questions! Always check in with your elderly companions. Explore new ways to help them. Never say “no” say “I will try” or “we can figure it out”
What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond?
Raquel: I like that it allows me to help people, sometimes people forget about the elderly, or overlook them. This job gives me the opportunity to care for them, sometimes beyond the job description, being able to do that for my ‘companions’ means the most to me. That’s what I do for my grannie, my companions have become like family.
Raquel, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values each and every day!

Gladys Williams

Congratulations to Gladys Williams, Assisting Hands Richmond’s Super STAR* for the month of January. Gladys is the true definition of a hard worker. She works very hard to give all her clients the care they deserve. Thank you for all that you do, Gladys!
We had a chance to sit down with Gladys and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a caregiver, and this is what she had to say this.
Why did you choose to be a caregiver?
watched my mom take care of my sister for many years while she was sick. I decided to take over and become my sister’s caregiver, and from that day forward I knew I wanted to become a caregiver to others. I cared for my sister until she passed away in 2020 from cancer.
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
The excitement I have is when seniors talk about their upbringing, and you hear so many stories. I like how some of the seniors are independent and don’t let their age or health keep them down.
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the home care field?
Patience is the key to healthcare. It’s not always going to be easy, but you have to keep trying and push for greater things!

Ladirah Jackson

Congratulations to Ladirah Jackson Assisting Hands Richmond’s Super STAR* for the month of December. Since Ladirah started working with our team, she has made a huge impact on the lives of her clients. She is an exceptional caregiver who always goes above and beyond to provide excellent caregiving services to each client that she works with. Thanks for all that you do Ladirah!
We had a chance to sit down with Ladirah and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she had to say.
Why did you choose to be a Caregiver?
I chose to be a caregiver because I have always been a nurturer but when both of my parents had strokes back in 2016/2017 that just pushed me even harder to be who I am today! My dad suffered for 5 years and he is no longer here. So It’s not just a job for me. I do this with compassion from the bottom of my heart!
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
What makes me most excited about working with seniors is the stories and who they were before. It pushes me to do what I want to do in life so that when I’m that age I can tell my story! They also always make you feel at home.
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the home care field?
The advice I would give to other caregivers would be to be patient, they don’t mean any harm. Imagine when you get older and you then need a second pair of hands, feet, or eyes to help you with everything. It’s not a comfortable feeling so you have to make them feel their best as much as you can with empathy!
What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond?
What I LOVE most about working with Assisting Hands is everyone in the office is DOPE! If you say otherwise it’s you! They’re pretty patient and sweet people and the company shows love and pays great but all in all, make sure that the caregiver and the clients are both comfortable!
Ladirah, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values every day!

Cassandra Anthony

Congratulations to Cassandra Anthony Assisting Hands Richmond’s Super STAR* for the month of November. Cassandra was chosen this month for her extreme dedication to her clients and for being the top requested caregiver among many of her clients who enjoy having her! Way to go Cassandra!
We had a chance to sit down with Lakisha and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she say.
Why did you choose to be a Caregiver?
I love helping elderly people. I wasn’t fortunate enough to get the opportunity with my mother, or grandparents. They all left this earth before the age of 50. So this is my way of giving back to someone else’s parents and grandparents.
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
Their knowledge and wisdom. I love talking to and being around elderly people.
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the Caregiving field?
Never take your personal business to a client’s home, once you clock in that client deserves 100% of you. If the client is mentally and physically capable of doing things for themselves, allow them to, assist when needed or asked of you. Allow them to keep their independence as long as they are able, if they are not capable, let them know everything you’re doing, about to do, and how you plan on doing it.
What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond?
The flexibility of their schedules, you have a variety of choices, full-time, part-time, short shifts, and can pick up extra hours when needed. And the staff is awesome.
Cassandra, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values each and every day!

What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
What makes me most excited is to have the opportunity to come into someone’s life and make a difference.
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the Caregiving field?
The one piece of advice I will give is not to come into this field of work unless your heart is in it because you have to love and be compassionate in taking care of others.
What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond?
What I like most about working with you guys is I love the way I can call any of you guys and talk to you all about a problem I might be having with a client and you guys listen to my concerns you all are very understanding about everything including my sickness when I need time off and I just thank GOD for the awesome team in that office.

Congratulations to Derriesha Pate, Assisting Hands Richmond’s Super STAR* for the month of July. Derriesha was chosen this month because of her outstanding commitment and compassion for her clients. She has shown extreme dedication to her job since the day she started with us here at Assisting Hands.
We had a chance to sit down with Derriesha and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she had to say.
Why did you choose to be a Caregiver?
I come from a family of nurses, I’m a natural helper and love the elderly..
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
The talks. They have so many stories that I love hearing about. I wasn’t a big fan of history in school but I love the talks from people who’ve experienced things like that.
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the Caregiving field?
Sometimes you are all they have so please always be considerate. If a client is not a good fit for you let someone know versus complaining/giving bad care. It’s never a problem to find the right caregiver/s for a client
What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond?
I love everything about this company. This is by far the best company I’ve ever worked for. They see/value the employees as much as the clients. They are very accommodating and considerate. It’s no drama among employees/supervisors. I just love how attentive they are to the employees just as much as they are to the client’s needs.
Derriesha, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values each and every day!

Brendaline Ngo Epse Nkart

Congratulations to Brendaline Ngo Epse Nkart, Assisting Hands Richmond’s Super STAR* for the month of June. Brendaline consistently is one of our most requested Caregivers. All of her clients absolutely love her (as do we)!
We had a chance to sit down with Brendaline and ask her a few questions regarding why she enjoys being a Caregiver and this is what she had to say .
Why did you choose to be a Caregiver?
My love for being a mother didn’t just end with taking care of my children. I love taking care of people, especially the vulnerable and the elderly fall in this category. Helping the seniors gives them a smile on their faces which is a priceless gift. It equally makes them live happily and that’s something so fulfilling for them and myself.
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
They are always very grateful for every little service rendered to them and that’s so important to me. Just a simple “thank you” from them means a lot to me. Working with seniors also gives me the opportunity to learn from their life experiences. It equally helps me to understand the aging process and what to expect as we age. They always have exciting stories to share with the caregiver.
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the Caregiving field?
The best advice I will give to someone new in nursing is for them to be “patient and emphatic”. It’s not easy at times but if you think of these two words or have these two qualities, I think you will get through the tough times like nothing ever happened. Also, be in good spirits and give them that smile that lights up their day, and most importantly take care of yourself too.
What do you like most about working with Assisting Hands Richmond?
I like working with Assisting Hands because of the supportive staff. They are always there when you need them. And there’s a lot of flexibility in the schedule and they always have a case for everyone. They equally motivate their employees by giving them bonuses and I think that’s a plus too
Brendaline, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values each and every day!

The reason I chose to become a caregiver is because I love helping people of all ages out and I always wanted to have a backup job, so in 2015 I received my PCA certification and I have been happy ever since.
What makes you the most excited about working with seniors?
What makes me most excited about working with seniors is that some seniors don’t always have close loved ones nearby and they get lonely at times, and being able to see them smile, and hear their older stories and jokes make it more fun.
What advice would you give to other caregivers just starting out in the Caregiving field?
The best advice I can give any caregiver is to just be patient and don’t give up, don’t overthink it, it will get easier the more you repeat the job.

The office staff are outstanding, someone is always able to answer the phone whenever we need them. Also, an easy company to work for you don’t have to work a full 8 hours and you can still manage your daily routine, as a single parent with 3 children this company has been the best company I have worked for, and will refer anyone to them !!! Tiera, thank you for all that you do and for living the AHR Shared Values each and every day!
